Nichrome is basically a name given to nickel-chromium resistance wires. It is a non-magnetic alloy, which consists of 80 percent nickel and 20 percent chromium by weight, and is widely used in heating elements because of its relatively high resistivity. Out of the constituents of nichrome, nickel is an element with the chemical symbol Ni and atomic number 28, whereas chromium is an element with the symbol Cr and atomic number 24. Nickel is generally a silvery-white lustrous metal, and chromium, a steely-gray and hard metal. Nichrome, the alloy, is silvery-gray in color, resistant towards corrosion, and has a high melting point.
 

 

Whether round, flat or profiled, the resistance wire is a staple product in the plastic film packaging and polystyrene industries over many years. Resistance wire is an electrical wire that resists electricity, converting energy produced into heat.

It's excellent capacity to seal & cut without mess and comparatively low setup and running costs makes it the preferred method in most low to medium volume applications. Resistance wire is available in a variety of different shapes, and can be cut specifically to suit your needs.

 

A Resistance Alloy used in electrical heating application. It is recommended for use in dry air applications up to 2150 degrees F with good hot strength. It is an alloy of nickel and chromium with high electrical resistance; used for resistance heating elements. Nichrome 80/20 is an ideal material, because it has relatively high resistance and forms an adherent layer of chromium oxide when it is heated for the first time. Material beneath the wire will not oxidize, preventing the wire from breaking or burning out.
