High Performance Continuous Nickel Foam for Ni-MH Battery Electrode

High Performance Continuous Nickel Foam for Ni-MH Battery Electrode

1.Product description:

Nickel Foam is a low density permeable material that has a very high porosity with typically 75-95% of the volume consisting of void spaces. Nickel Foam has a wide variety of applications in heat exchangers, energy absorption, flow diffusion, lightweight optics and is used as a filter material for gas and liquid.

Marketech supplies high quality nickel foam for rechargeable battery applications. Our plates have proven to be excellent electrode substrates for Ni-Cd and Ni-H rechargeable batteries and hydrogen storage units.

Nickel Foam Industrial Application- high purity nickel foam produced in a wide porosity range (~70% to 98%) and based on the structure of reticulated polymer foam. nickel foam are suitable porous three-dimensional anodes for the oxidation of organic substrates. Metal foams are metal cellular structures containing a large volume fraction of gas-filled pores. They are a relatively new class of materials, which has been developed for applications in lightweight structures. They offer low densities and, due to their high stiffness to weight ratio, they show potential for energy absorption and mechanical damping. There are two types of metal foams, open cell metal foam, where the pores do interconnect, and closed cell metal foams with sealed pores. Nickel foam possesses unique features such as exceptional uniformity, light weight, high porosity, intrinsic strength, corrosion resistance, and good electrical and thermal conductivity.

Nickel foam is an ideal material for alkaline and negative current collectors and active material carriers for alkaline rechargeable batteries. It has been successfully used as a nickel-hydrogen/nickel-cadmium battery positive and negative current collector and active material carrier.

2. Nickel Information

Nickel is a chemical element with symbol Ni and atomic number 28. It is a silvery-white lustrous metal with a slight golden tinge. Nickel belongs to the transition metals and is hard and ductile. Pure nickel, powdered to maximize the reactive surface area, shows a significant chemical activity, but larger pieces are slow to react with air under standard conditions because an oxide layer forms on the surface and prevents further corrosion (passivation). Even so, pure native nickel is found in Earth's crust only in tiny amounts, usually in ultramafic rocks, and in the interiors of larger nickel-iron meteorites that were not exposed to oxygen when outside Earth's atmosphere.

Meteoric nickel is found in combination with iron, a reflection of the origin of those elements as major end products of supernova nucleosynthesis. An iron–nickel mixture is thought to compose Earth's inner core.

3.Application

Ni-MH battery is the most commercial mobile energy that HEV can adopt. HGP's high-performance continuous foam nickel developed independently for nickel-hydrogen battery has uniform density, tensile strength and electrical resistivity. Performance indicators such as elongation have been further improved to fully meet the needs of power-based NiMH batteries. They can be used as batteries for electric vehicles and are the preferred materials for high-power and ultra-high-power batteries.
